Stories of Unsung Heroism

There was such a wonderful response to the Premiere of “The Hegartys of The Laurels” during the recent IndieCork Film Festival that Club Ceoil Ballyphehane & The Hegarty Collection have arranged a special screening on Friday 22nd November.

The film has been in post-production since the “sneak peek” screening in Cork City Hall on 13th April and it was a huge honour to have the finished film selected for IndieCork.

In addition to “The Hegartys of The Laurels”  two short films will also be screened. All three films tell the stories of Unsung Cork Heroism, the courage shown by Corkonians and the sacrifices they made in the struggle for Irish Freedom.

“The Hegartys of The Laurels” tells the story of the Hegarty family from Pouladuff . Their story is one of courage, survival and reconciliation amidst the turmoil of two wars as Ireland struggled to break free from centuries of British rule.

“My Unsung Hero” sheds light on Joe Murphy, a man from Togher, who sacrificed his life on a hunger strike for fair trials.

“Engagement & Endurance” by St Peters Cork, focuses on the women of Cork and how they engaged in the struggle for freedom and strove to achieve a better life for their families and communities.
