On Thursday 6th November we were delighted to screen “The Hegartys of The Laurels” as part of a charity fundraiser for the Mill Theatre and The Rosemount Family Resource Centre in Dundrum.
Cllr. Fiona Murray opened the event and spoke about the role the theatre plays in the community and the opportunities it gives to so many to become involved in community performances and projects. The Rosemount Family Resource Centre offers a wide range of services including family support, counselling and social gatherings.
Jim Hegarty gave some background to the family story behind the film and the connections to so many other brave families whose descendants were also in the audience.
Mr Cathal Brugha finished the evening by encouraging others to discover and honour their own family histories and to remember how brave the Hegartys and so many others were.
We were delighted to receive some wonderful feedback after the screening. The audience found the story very moving and could relate very easily to it as many of them had connections to the Hegarty family or had family members featured in the film.
Thank you to the Mill Theatre for hosting the screening and we were delighted to hear that the funds raised will help both the theatre and the Rosemount Family Resource Centre continue the fantastic work they do.
