Tours of St Josephs Cemetery, Cork

A group of people gathers in a cemetery while a man in a red waistcoat speaks and gestures from among the gravestones. Other attendees stand listening under cloudy skies, surrounded by old headstones and trees.

The Cork Historical Society organise monthly guided tours of St Joseph’s Cemetery, Tory Top Road, Cork.

Opened in 1830 by Father Mathew, the cemetery is steeped with history and there are incredible stories attached to over 230,000 people buried there.

The guided tours take place on the first Wednesday of every month during the Summer months and finish in September.

We are so honoured that the Hegarty family graves are included in the tours. John Joe, Nan (Fennell) & Mamie (Forde) Hegarty are buried close to each other and the tour guide Finbarr Barry shares their story beautifully.
