THE BOOK LAUNCH
Invitation
Cork City Library invited Jim to hold a Book Launch for the “The Hegartys of the Laurels” as part of the 2022 Lifelong Learning Festival.
The Book Launch was included in the programme of events and was open to the people of Cork. It took place on Thursday 7th April in the City Library on the Grand Parade.
Special thanks to Eibhlín Cassidy, Angela Hannon, David O’Brien and the Cork City Library Team for enabling the launch of the book in such wonderful surroundings.
Exhibition
Cork City Library also very kindly offered to host an exhibition of the Hegarty Collection in the weeks prior to the Book Launch.
Many visitors to the Library took the time to view the artifacts and to learn about John Joe, Nan, Mamie and their friend and comrade, Joe Murphy.
Thank you to the Cork Public Museum and the Forde Family for making the Forde Collection available for the exhibition. Items in the collection included Mamie Hegarty’s (Forde) exquisite wedding shawl.
We are also very grateful to the Gus and the Fennell family for providing us with Nan’s Service Medal and other special family artifacts for the exhibition.
Book Launch
The Lord Mayor of Cork Cllr. Colm Kelleher opened the event and was escorted into Cork City Library by a lone Piper and Old IRA Volunteers.
Many thanks to Adam Duggan and the members of ACT1 Military Film Service for participating in the Book Launch and creating such a wonderful atmosphere.
It was a very special evening for all members of the Hegarty family. Neighbours, friends and relations joined us to make the Book Launch a huge success.
