The Cork Holly Bough is an annual Christmas tradition in Cork with a global audience.
It has been published almost every year since 1897 (the year John Joe Hegarty was born) and is a must-have in Cork households. The Cork Holly Bough is a collection of stories, articles, features and history and for Corkonians far and wide it’s publication marks the beginning of Christmas.
We were absolutely thrilled when Linda Kenny heard about “The Hegartys of The Laurels” and offered to submit an article to the Holly Bough for the 2024 edition.
Linda’s article was duly accepted and since the publication of the Cork Holly Bough we have received fantastic feedback as the Hegarty’s story reaches a new audience. John Joe, Nan & Mamie’s stories have inspired other families to take a look at their own history and even more incredible stories are beginning to emerge.
Huge thanks to family and friends around the world who have taken the time to contact us with photos and comments on the article and we hope to facilitate more screenings of the film in Irish Centres worldwide.
If you would like to read the article but can’t get your hands on a physical copy, there is an option to purchase an epaper edition on the Echolive website. Click the image of the Holly Bough below!
